The number of employment tribunal claims rocketed by more than 50% in 2009/10, compared to the previous year, according to statistics from the Tribunal Service. Multiple claims, which are generally brought by unions, grew by 90%, while single claims grew by 14% overall. Claims for discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, disability or sexuality increased, while claims for gender discrimination fell.
