Weak Scottish retail sales causing concern, says BRC

Despite the rise in overall UK sales, weak Scottish retail sales are causing concern, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC). Like-for-like sales in June 2010 were 1.1% lower than the same time last year. Food sales were flat, while clothing and footwear and homeware sales also dropped year-on-year. A BRC spokesperson points out that, unlike their English counterparts, Scottish retailers have not benefited from the effect of the World Cup.
